Cultural heritage The imperial city of Cusco has many important archaeological sites throughout its territory, and the Tipón Archaeological Park cannot be the exception. Located at an altitude of 3600 meters above sea level, 23 km from Cusco, this complex dedicated to the deity of water (Mama Cocha) is one of the largest and most relevant constructions in hydraulic engineering. It consists of 240 hectares and is part of the route of the Inca Trail network (Qapac Ñan), also showing us the perfection of the Incas in hydraulic works and agriculture.Characteristics of Tipón
- It has 240 hectares
- Dedicated to the cult of water
- Its construction is based on terraces, platforms, and rooms
- Material it is made of: Stone and adobe
- It is considered a marvel of civil engineering
- Structures that stand out: Altar to the sun or Intihuatana, Wall that protected the enclosure, Cruzmoqo Viewpoint
History of Tipón
Ancestral legacy- It was inhabited by cultures prior to the Incas such as the Ayamarcas and Waris.
- It was the residence of the ruler Yahuar Huacac, his son was the one who built the main canals and walls in the 15th century.
- In the Spanish invasion, much of its construction was not destroyed, which is why we can currently see a large part of the original structure.
- Currently, the Tipon canals continue to flow water constantly and precisely, which is why they call it a marvel of civil engineering.
- According to Garcilaso de la Vega, it was built by the Inca Huiracocha as part of the resistance against Huaqaj (his father).
Oropesa: National Capital of Bread
Gastronomic tradition Located 21 km southeast of Cusco, at about 3110 meters above sea level, Oropesa is considered the National Capital of Bread, since the breads that are produced are varied and tasty, as is the case of PAN CHUTA, wrapped in legends and myths. It is said that bread cannot be produced on the day a person dies and there is also the legend of the baker boy.Attractions of Oropesa
- The church of San Salvador de Oropesa, with more than 500 years old, built of stone; it stands out for its value in canvases, altarpieces, pulpit and other works of art.
- The Pinagua quarries: Located 4 km from the city of Oropesa, you can see a notorious Inca presence.
- The bread of Oropesa: Famous throughout Peru and perhaps in the world, it is prepared in the traditional way. The one that stands out the most is the pan chuta.
- Festivities: The most famous is that of San Francisco Asis, where the “Tanta Raymi” takes place. Every October since 1993, gastronomic fairs have been held where bread is the protagonist.
Huasao: Recreational Center
Natural beauty Considered a recreational center, famous for the great scenic beauty it possesses and the great species of birds that inhabit Huasao. This place is suitable for visiting with the family as it offers various activities. It is located in the district of Oropesa and province of Quispicanchi, just 40 minutes from the city of Cusco.- The Huasao wetlands: Famous for its landscapes and sculptures of animals and characters, made up of 4 bodies of water and a unique ecosystem with plants such as nihua, chachacoma, molle, chillca and cantuta flower.
- Wooden sculptures: There are various wooden sculptures, whether of people, animals or fictional characters, all these works by the artist Juan Chalco Chura.
