La Morada de los Dioses: Historical significance

Local culture Its name, “Apukunaq Tianan” in Quechua or “Morada de los Dioses”, refers to the Inca and Andean deities represented in impressive stone sculptures. This unique site was created by the renowned Cusco sculptor Michael Monteagudo Mejía, who carved these monumental works dedicated to the divinities and mythical characters of the Inca culture directly on the slopes of the Apu Senqa, taking advantage of natural resources to create a mystical space that dialogues with the Andean worldview.

The sculptures: Interpretation of the Andean worldview

Main attraction The sculptures reach up to eight meters in height and are made directly from the stone of the place. They represent anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures that embody fundamental elements of the Andean worldview and Inca history.

The Puma: Symbol of the Kaypacha or earthly world in the Andean cosmology.
La Pachamama: Representation of Mother Earth, a deity who was worshiped through rituals of payment to the land.
The Three-dimensional Door: Symbolizes the caves that, according to Inca belief, connected the world of the living (Kaypacha) with that of the dead (Ukupacha).
The Andean Man: Represents Manco Cápac, first son of the Sun and founder of the largest empire in South America.
