CUSCO INKILLTAMBO HIKE – ACCLIMATION HIKE

Hike to Inkilltambo, in Cusco, a little-known destination within the Sacsayhuamán Archaeological Park and the Inca road network (Qhapaq Ñan). Its name means “flowery garden” in Quechua. On the tour, you can see Andean temples, agricultural terraces and bodies of water, following the last section of Antisuyo towards the Amazon.

Monkey Temple, Moon Temple, Inkilltambo. This hike takes place within the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, located within the Inca road network (Qhapaq Ñan). Inkilltambo is one of the lesser-known places in Cusco, but of great historical and cultural value.

Tour Description

Adventure and Culture Hike to Inkilltambo, Private Service. Etymologically, Inkilltambo comes from Quechua, which, translated into Spanish, would be “flowery garden.” This site during its journey has many Andean temples, to which they were worshiped. The Inca Empire (Tahuantinsuyo), whose extension covered a large part of South America, was divided into four large regions and interconnected by more than 30,000 kilometers of roads, which converge at one point: the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, in the ancient capital of the empire. It crosses the last section of Antisuyo, a road that connected the Amazon with the center of the empire. This destination, not well known, covers, in large part, the Inca road to Antisuyo, where we will see large agricultural terraces, bodies of water and much more.

Hike program

Itinerary We start by picking you up from your accommodation to, later, go to the Plaza Mayor, a place where the guide will give all the details about this walk. Then, we go along the road to Antisuyo, along Triunfo Street, passing by the Stone of the 12 Angles, thus arriving at Paclachapata Park. In this site we will talk a little about the history of the Incas, until we reach the viewpoint, where we will see all of Cusco. In the same way, we continue along the Inca trail towards the Temple of the Monkeys, an important site of worship. In this site, our guide will explain about the relationship between men and animals of the jungle. However, at the same point we find an outstanding stone, which many call “heart of the pacha mama”. Following the walk towards Inkilltambo, we find the Temple of the Moon, a place of worship for Andean priests. Place where the moon was venerated with sacrifices of all kinds. Finally, we take the road that will take us to the archaeological center of Inkilltambo. Once we arrive at this relevant site for the Incas, our guide will explain about the importance of this site in the time of the Incas. Likewise, we descend for 1 hour until we reach Huayracpunku. Point where our mobility will be waiting for us to return to the hotel.
