DESCRIPTION
Get ready for an unforgettable experience — a scenic hike to the majestic Ausangate mountain, where you’ll discover some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Peruvian Andes. We begin the adventure at 4:00 a.m. with hotel pickup in Cusco. Aboard our private tourist transport, we’ll drive for about two hours to the town of Cusipata, where a comforting buffet breakfast awaits at our local restaurant.
After breakfast, we continue along a panoramic route toward the Ausangate base point, where the hike begins. This elevated starting point significantly reduces the walking time while maximizing your enjoyment of the views. Just five minutes into the hike, you’ll already witness the stunning Ausangate Lake, a natural gem that marks the start of a trail surrounded by glaciers and turquoise lakes.
The hike, which is of moderate difficulty and takes between 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on the group’s pace, offers two route options:
The horseback route, ideal for travelers seeking a more relaxed experience, and
The trekking route, perfect for those who love hiking and direct contact with nature.
Our main destination is Qorisoncco Lake, famous for its three unique colors, as well as the Turquoise Lake, located just in front of the Ausangate glacier. At this spot, your guide will share fascinating facts about the geology, local legends, and the cultural importance of this sacred mountain. Then, you’ll have free time to rest, take photos, or simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
Next, we’ll hike back to the starting point and board the vehicle to return to Cusipata, where a delicious buffet lunch will be served. Finally, we’ll head back to Cusco, ending a day filled with nature, fresh air, and unforgettable views of the majestic Ausangate.

Tour Itinerary
- Pick up from the hotel in Cusco
We start the day with the pick up from your accommodation in Cusco and depart in private tourist transport to the south, towards the town of Cusipata.
- Buffet breakfast in Cusipata
Upon arrival in Cusipata, we will enjoy an Andean buffet breakfast, ideal to start the day with energy.
- Transfer to the starting point of the trekking
After breakfast, we head toward Pitumarca and continue our journey through Ichupatauntil we reach the Ausangate base point, where our hike begins.
- Start of the walk towards the Ausangate
From this point we start our trekking through well-defined mountain trails. The walk lasts approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour, through impressive landscapes with direct views of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, surrounded by streams, rock formations, and the presence of llamas and alpacas.
- Visit to the Qorisoncco Lagoonand natural viewpoint
Along the route, we will visit Qorisoncco Lake, known for its three distinct color tones, as well as smaller lakes like Pucacocha (visible during the rainy season). From a natural viewpoint, we’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Ausangate mountain and the surrounding crystal-clear lakes.
- Free time for photos and rest
You will have time to enjoy the surroundings, take pictures and rest surrounded by nature in its purest state.
- Return by the same path
After the free time, we begin the return walking along the same path to the point where the transport awaits us.
- Buffet lunch in Cusipata
Upon returning to Cusipata, we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in a local restaurant, where typical Andean food is served. This space is ideal to relax and recharge energy after the walk, while you savor the traditional flavors of the region.
- Return to Cusco and end of service
Finally, we return to the city of Cusco, concluding this unforgettable experience in the Peruvian Andes.
