Description

Unique experience Join the “Tupac Amaru II” route, and discover, in one day, other episodes of our history. This new route includes the house of José Gabriel Condorcanqui, known as Tupac Amaru II, descendant of the Inca nobility, and also the Q’eswachaca bridge, an ancient bridge, considered the last Inca vestige that still remains in the memory of its inhabitants.

HISTORY OF ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT REBELLIONS IN SOUTHERN PERU

Historical Rebellion This historical event is important because it occurred in a context in which the Spanish crown continuously exploited the natives. This is the most relevant precursor movement of social justice in Peru, as it also occurred long before the French or American revolution. In 1780 the rebellion breaks out with José Gabriel Condorcanqui who, tired of the abuse, set out arresting and executing the corregidor of Tinta. After that, with the sympathy and adhesion of the inhabitants, it was possible to win the battle of Sangarará, on November 18, 1780. On the 27th of that same month, Tupac Amaru launched a manifesto explaining the reasons that led him to rebel against the colonial regime. Given these events, the viceroy Agustín de Jáuregui sent the visitor José Antonio de Areche to Cusco, giving him sufficient power to quell the rebellion; thus, in January 1781, with reinforcements sent from Lima, it was decided to attack Cusco. The battles of Checacupe and Combapata ended up pushing back the rebel forces, culminating in the capture of Tupac Amaru and his family. Then, Areche proceeded to cruelly torture the emancipators. On May 18, 1781, in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, the rebels were taken to a certain death and royalist forces in charge of Areche decide to dismember both him and his other supporters. After this event, they decide to distribute their parts in various places as a lesson. However, the spirit of struggle continued among his supporters, who led by Diego Cristóbal Tupac Amaru (his cousin), resisted until the beginning of 1782.

What is its location and altitude? It is located in the Cusco region, on the Apurímac River and at 3700 m.a.s.l.
